Just a Test

Just testing with my iPad. Trying to decide if I am ready to change full time from a laptop to this little beast. One of many changes on the horizon out in AHD land.

Random file photo from a Spring Break ride through Utah back about 2008.

  2. I use Blogsy on the iPad and am pretty happy with the app. Much more flexible formatting than many if the other products but far from perfect.

  3. Anxious to hear your thoughts after you've made a decision. I think many of us are contemplating similar moves.

  4. Let us know what you decide. This PC of mine is annoying and I would love to use the iPad instead!

  5. I have a Gallaxy Tab and what a difference it makes in packing for a trip. I am not sure about IPad, but on the Tab you can download pics to it and that was important to me. I have been considering changing up to the IPad so I am interested in what you think of it more.

  7. To all; First response is it is a PITA! Wouldn't save the post and after I gave up, quit, and went back to posts it had, indeed, saved it, and I was able to post.

Posting the picture was a problem because its went to the cloud and I had to fight to scroll through all photos to find one to use. Selecting the picture was easy, but finding the select button took an effort. Apple makes an adapter, for around $30, that should make pictures easier. I will get that in the near future, go on a ride, take some pictures, and report on the result.

As in everything new it is a learning process and the laptop was a PITA when I first started. I love the iPad for ease of use and it is a daily use item in the classroom. Frankly I don't know how I taught without it.

  8. My laptop is 5 years old and I've been thinking about a new one...then I see people using ipads to watch movies on the plane. Thinking maybe just keep my laptop for documents in Excel and Word and get an ipad for internet, music and movies. ?????????

  10. I can comment from my iPad, but I've never tried drafting a blog with it. I use the iMac for that. Hubby does all his drafting from the laptop though.

Did you decide whether to make the switch?

  11. Paul:

I prefer a laptop. I have a small 11.6" i3 for traveling. I need the external drive for saving photos and video. I don't think I could survive using only a tablet

  12. Mr. HD: I have a Android powered Asus tablet and love it. I've got to the point at home I don't even fire up my desktop any longer. I haven't found anything I really can't do with it. The thing I like best is the optional keyboard dock. It has a full size keys, mouse pad and additional battery to (re)charge the tablet with. Battery life is never a problem lasting all day with pretty heavy usage. Mine is WiFi only so I just tether it to my phone or snag a open connection when I'm out an about with it.

I won't be ditching my PCs completely but for most simple tasks like surfing, email and the like they are perfect.

Tablets never made much sense to me until one day the light bulb lite up and I could see just how practical they are and can be.

To anyone thinking about getting a tablet I say go for it. Just keep the PC for back up because there are a few things that are easier or faster to do with it.

    I'm tickled with mine!

  13. One other thing... use the cloud!!! Grab a LiveDrive, Gdrive, Drop Box or in the case of the iPad iCloud. Open as many of these accounts to have a bunch of free online storage. I've got about 50gigs total between all of my accounts.

I have all of my music, photos, videos and select files in the cloud so I can watch, listen or grabs my files from anything with a web browser or app with a internet connection like my phone. If I'm at a friends smoking and drinking on the patio I just plug my phone in and stream my music.

  14. I bought Highway a Chromebook for Christmas and he loves it. It's smaller than a laptop, but it has no programs or storage. It connects directly to Google Chrome and uses all of their programs and storage. So it's actually really easy to use and small like a pad or tablet.

BUT, he's had a few functionality problems. We're not sure if it's a compatibility issue or user error or just quirks in the system. We have always used pc's, so we're not on the Apple thing. We have a tablet too, but that is older and works just like any other mobile device, so it's very limited.

I haven't tried his Chromebook, but he more he uses it, the more he loves it. We keep ALL of our files on the Cloud now, so accessing them is a breeze, as long as we have wifi.

    Good luck!

  15. I sold my iPad on Ebay and went back to a laptop for travels. I might consider an Android based tablet but never another Apple product. Happily, some Apple fanboy gave me more $50 more for the iPad than I paid from it at the Apple Store!
